Canary Club: NOLA Inspired Restaurant and Music Lounge Debuts on the LES

A new one-stop hot spot for date night has just made its debut on the Lower East Side. Boasting vintage, New Orleans-inspired vibes, Canary Club is a restaurant, lounge, and music venue from restaurateur Ryan Chadwick (Grey Lady) and his wife, interior designer Emily Frantz, who drew from the unusual colors of wild canaries to create the space’s bold color palette.

Upstairs, dine on French Creole-influenced American dishes by chef Tadd Johnson, including caviar with housemade voodoo spiced chips, escargot with canary sauce and boo coo garlic, NOLA prawns, and petite cochon and clams with savory tomato, crispy potato, and crawfish butter. As for the cocktails? New York and NOLA combine, with a surrealist twist. Sips include the Absinthe A La Max Ernst and Dali’s Muse, and for the non-drinkers, the menu even boasts a “This Is Not A Cocktail” section with non-alcoholic, but equally elegant Seedlip creations.

Downstairs is where things really turn up, as guests are transported to an after-dark avant-garde hideaway complete with live jazz, funk, and instrumental music along with late-night disco dancing. And keep an eye out for the upcoming Canary Supper Club, a private experience featuring a rotation of special chefs, collaborations, and socially-driven events inspired by French salons.
